Grant Description and Goals

The Sparta Area School District received a two year grant from the State of Wisconsin to address issues regarding student alcohol and drug use.  Funds from the grant were used to hire a part-time guidance counselor to coordinate grant activities and monitor the progress of the grant.

 

1.     By June 2007, students grade 4-8 will receive ATODA prevention instruction utilizing a SAMSHA- approved model program curriculum

 

2.     By June 30, 2007, 80% of students completing Project Northland Class Action curriculum will increase their knowledge of the risks associated with alcohol use by 30% as measured with the pre and posttest.  80% of students completing Class Action will report a 15% decrease in the engagement of alcohol behaviors and attitudes as measured by the YRBS

       

3.     By June 30, 2007, 80% of students completing Project Alert will increase their knowledge and show attitudinal changes linked to program objectives by 30% as measured by pre and posttest    

 

4.     By May 15, 2007, 75% of students who attend Save a Life tour will report increased intentions to refrain from driving after drinking and from riding in a car with someone who has been drinking

 

5.     By June 2007, 75% of staff respondents will have increased ability to detect and verify when students are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, use of breathalyzer and/or drug test kits, as measured by staff survey

 

6.     By June 30, 2007, 80% of parent respondents will report increased awareness of AODA prevention efforts as measured by parent surveys

 

7.     By June 30, 2007, reports of alcohol and drug related violations will decrease by 20% on nights when Sparta high school hosts alternative activities for high school students as measured by police reports

 

8.     By June 30, 2007, 90% of Leadership Camp participants will report ATODA attitude changes and provide ten examples of ATODA resistance leadership
